As a young college student, I sang lots of Italian arias. Now, my 10-year-old daughter enjoys learning some of the same ones I sang. She is too shy to sing them in public, however.
Music is a big part of our family life and all three children love to “play” at the piano.
This is my antique piano…that I bought for $140 when I lived in Washington, D.C. I thought this corner needed a little glam makeover…you know– opera style.
My mom’s brass candelabra from Lebanon got some crystals from a chandelier, and the vintage ceramic lamp is topped with a burlap lampshade from my parent’s attic.
I added a vintage modeling photo of a family friend and a painted photograph of my great grandmother to the window from my great grandfather’s house.
My 13-year-old daughter takes more “artistic” photos than I do…
Of course, one must have lace and lots of it. Inherited vintage Chinese silk keeps it colorful and ties into the french door shades I made last summer.
I think this is an inspiring place to create and share music with the whole family.

Hi Anita, first time visitor here….lovely, lovely post…I grew up with opera arias being sung and enjoyed in our home…So this little corner you have created is especially endearing to me….it has inspired me to showcase my Dad's opera books and music which I have kept in a drawer all this time…thank you, N.xo
Hand that camera back to your GD, she does a fabulous job!! I love the way you mounted the two lovely portraits…which by the way, are so beautiful…love the one of your grandma. Everything is just lovely, beautiful corner vignette.
Anita, your decor, life and talents are all becoming inspiration for each other and the whole "picture" is just shining and sparkling like bright lights!!!The lace is stunning and what a great decision to buy the piano. The photographs with in the framed music are gorgeous. Honestly, if you have a minute, set design comes to my mind…Downton, etc.,….Once again thank you so much for sharing.

First of all, what a deal you got on the piano! You've made this an awesome spot in your home. If my piano area had looked like this when I was a little girl, I would have wanted to practice much more than I did!
You created such a pretty corner, Anita, and definitely an inspiring spot for music. I love piano music and you have a gorgeous piano. Music is a wonderful thing!
$140 for that piano is amazing! Your photos are stunning, too!
