Last week I shared part of the back porch makeover HERE, now we are heading around to the front porch which also got some low-cost vintage styling.
The sign came off the original house of my grandparents here, and my dad let me have it several years ago.
This porch is all about, sitting in a rocker, listening to the creek and slowing down.
This is the rocker I found for $25 for Luis. What a great deal it was!
Here is how I found it…
Nothing says “Southern” more than ferns on a porch, and here in the mountains they are everywhere.
This is an old bed with old iron skillets and a waffle iron my dad gave me along with more vintage license plates.
The children love the porch too.
This sign has been here longer than I have been alive, so I borrowed it from my dad, and I moved the antique Southern Railroad lanterns beside it.
My aunt made the wreath so I kept it country with dried hydrangeas and a burlap and ticking bow.
This is the perfect spot for a cold glass of raspberry-lemon iced tea:-)
These are the same rugs I have had for several years. They get pressure washed every spring and have held up really well. We have sun here in the late afternoon and I have not had any issues with either mold or fading.
Oh, I forgot to mention I did paint the red french doors black. I really like the black.
I really wanted to bring the vintage style of the other porches to the front, and I think I achieved a cohesive feel all the way around. I used mostly things I found and only spent the $25 for the rocker. We love it and enjoy taking time just to sit and talk. And isn’t that what a front porch is for?
Now for other news…I am really excited about my very first magazine feature!
Ideal Home and Garden Magazine featured these two photos in a story titled, “Revival of the Relics,” in the May 2013 issue.
Thanks to Reva and staff for the beautiful feature:-) You can clickHERE to see the complete feature.
Thanks for stopping by my porch! I hope you are inspired to take time and enjoy family, friends, and the blessings in life.

I’ll be joining:
Anita, now that is a porch to relax on! I love all the vintage touches and your sign is especially fun… and meaningful! I'd come over and share an iced tea with you anytime!
Congratulations on your pretty pink objects being used in Ideal Home! And I enjoyed my visit to your wonderful porch–and my glass of raspberry-lemon iced tea in that pink glass! It is amazing that you have created that porch from mostly found and repurposed items, but with a lot of hard work too getting it all spiffed up for the summer season. I know your family will enjoy the fruit of your hard labor.
The shrubbery sign made me wonder if there is a problem there in the mountains with people trying to dig up wild plants and shrubs? I remember an old favorite author of mine, Gladys Taber, writing about the city people who would come and dig up the wild ferns in Connecticut. She only hoped that they wouldn't die in their new location, but I always cringed at thinking of the countryside losing its native plants.
Lovely job on the porch!
Anita, I LOVE your porches!! You have such a gift for decorating and it shows how much love you have for your heritage and family heirlooms. My favorite is the back porch where you can see the creek. Congratulations on the honor of being featured in a magazine!!! I'm so happy and proud for you!!
You are truly an artist when it comes to decorating. A precious sign to have and pass down to family members.
It is all put together so well, it looks like a million bucks! I love the old signs the best. And the fresh black paint on the doors and rockers is the perfect punctuation for all of the neutrals. What a great outdoor living room!

I love, love, love your porch ~ have always wanted a covered area where we could sit during a thunderstorm and not get wet! Congratulations on your feature! Your home is definitely magazine worthy! Nothing yet as to finding a home in the mountains…Would love to be up there today as it's going to be 92 here.
Hi Anita,
Visiting via Kim's today. Your vintage front porch is simply charming! From the black lanterns to the coppery patina cookery collection, and the beautiful landscape surrounding it, your porch is a place for pure relaxation in the lazy summer months! Lovely!

Anita, congratulations on the article and all your hard-loving work putting together the wonderful heritage welcoming porch. I love all the details and signs and of course the rocker.
What a welcoming front porch…you did a terrific job.
This porch is so inviting! I love the vintage signs!
Wow! This porch really makes me want to just come and sit awhile. Really it is so lovely. I just found your blog through Savy Southern Style and I am your newest follower. I would love for you to stop by my blog sometime and take a look.
Thanks, Patty
Love that you reused your old mattress spring frame. I have one I love and never used. Thought of repurposing as a trellis for sweat peas or something but like your display idea much better – thanks!
