Sunday Dinner

We always have Sunday “dinner” either with my parents or at our house. I admit– it takes effort because as a worship leader, Sunday is also a work day and mornings can get really hectic…especially trying to get three children up and ready to go:-)

I love to use the vintage linens that were passed down to me from a cousin of my grandfather’s. She was such a cultured southern lady and had the most fabulous things. My mom just gave me this beautiful set of embroidered linen placemats and napkins.

I set a very simple table with the Pfaltzgraff “Heritage” plates, which I use a lot. I really love the smaller size of these 10 1/4″ dinner plates.

Pretty blue Fostoria, oddly enough also “Heritage” glasses my mother gave me for Christmas with every day Oneida “Arbor/American Harmony” flatware.

I filled my grandfather’s box with my last pink Asiatic lily and blooms from my mother’s garden.

Just a casual mix of garden flowers…

I love the crisp, white look of the linen especially with the white plates and the pale blue of the glassware.

But the thing I loved most is that we were all gathered around the table together for another Sunday afternoon dinner. No cell phones, no TV, no computer. Just family:-)

Isn't it wonderful to know that you're using every day items that your family used long before you? I often wonder what treasured items that I use everyday that belonged to my great grandmothers my children and grandchildren will use in the future. I hope they love them as much as I do!

    Anita,

Your tabletop is gorgeous and so inviting. I love you love and cherish things handed down the generations – and so nice you USE them and not just tuck them awaym, unseen. You are providing memories for the current generation who will one day love them for the loving memories YOU yourself are creating.

    God bless.

Your table is beautiful. Placemats and napkins are a treasure for sure but the best treasure are the family memories each Sunday. This is rare today. You are blessed.

    I love your runner too.

Your table setting is so pretty, Anita! Sunday dinners with the family are the best even though the mornings can be very hectic with the kids and getting out the door for church.

Very pretty, Anita. I love the placemats and the beautiful flowers. Our Sunday's are 'work' days too so it's always brunch after church (eggs of some sort, toast and tea), an afternoon nap/rest, then back to church for evening service. No big Sunday dinners for us.

Sunday dinner is always such a treat! It's a tradition in our family. I have missed it since Daddy died about a month or so ago. We will most likely resume the practice once I have sufficiently mended post-op. The table you set here is just gorgeous and makes Sunday dinner an extra special treat!!! The flowers are beautiful!!! I love pink in every form!!!

I have a box similar to your Granddad's wooden box. It has never looked as lovely as this one!

Beautiful setting, Anita! Enjoy your weekend!!!
