Some of you all asked me where the dining table went when the grand piano moved into the dining space, which you can see HERE if you missed it. Well, here it is in its new spot and where we are enjoying it this fall:-)
But before we get to that, some other things had to move around. I *love* the chandelier over the piano, and didn’t want to move it so I came up with a solution to define the new eating area. We don’t really need light here as we have recessed lighting in this area.
I switched the chandelier that was in here with the one in the bedroom, all by myself, :-), so I wanted something that would not compete with that and decided to hang two iron candleholders. Only they didn’t look like this when I got them.
They looked like this. $8 for the pair you just can’t beat, so I painted them flat black, added chandelier chains to hang them from the ceiling, and crystal chandelier drops. The beautiful long ones hanging in the middle were part of a vintage French giveaway I won at Le Monde de Catherine. I was so excited to win her giveaway, which included some more beautiful French goodies I’ll share later.
I also changed some other things out since Thanksgiving is coming up. I switched the pink Chinese silk runner for the burlap one I made and added the Japanese maple leaves to the ice bucket.
I actually kept things pretty simple — for me anyway:-)
I have mentioned before that the oil pastel was given to my great grandmother Knight in 1909 by the artist, Louis Rowell, who drew the view from her front porch. I am so happy to have it here:-)
I brought one of the doors from the old house and switched it with the white tongue and groove door I had here.
Oh how I *love* these doors. My dad said I would soon have the whole house here, and I smiled as that is exactly what I’m trying to do. Unfortunately none of them fit our door jams here or I would switch them all out. To have come from a house with 10-foot-ceilings, they seem to be shorter than normal for some reason. This one is also narrower as it was a closet door.
I also changed the table centerpiece by adding a few white pumpkins I painted along with the Japanese maple leaves to the old chestnut board.
Burlap placemats with sheet music and simple Hull “Brown Drip” plates add some interest to the table.
Another thing I did was bring back the bench I used to have with the table. Here it is about 5 years ago.
Besides the fact the cover didn’t go with anything, it was dirty, so I ripped it off…
…and found it had burlap underneath, which I liked, but it was not thick enough to leave as it was, so I covered it with more burlap…
…and a little trim. And I also left it “naked” because liked the wood showing:-)
And I am loving how it looks. I got rid of the bench when I found the Duncan Phyfe chairs because I was honestly tired of having to sit on it. Benches are not the most comfortable seating for dining, so we’ll see how long it lasts this time around, but I like how it looks anyway.
So this is where the dining table went, and I can say we love it here. Now you’re gonna want to know where the living room went, and I’ll show you another day:-)

AWESOME- you did a great job and that room looks amazing.
Well done, ma'am!!! WOW!!!!
LOL- That is exactly what I was thinking-well, where did her living room go? lol I love the new look. Great idea with the lighting and I LOVE the bench. It does look great but you are right-they are not always comfortable. Put the kids there-they won't mind! It all looks just beautiful! xo Diana
So enjoy seeing the new and different arrangements. Blogging must take so much time and work (I don't blog, but I love reading them) that I can't see how you can get everything done and post too. Do you ever sleep? With your church job, recording, family, decorating, and running the house, when do you find time to sit and write?
Anyway….thanks from many of us for sharing. Vicki in Louisville,KY
Wow! What changes, they are all beautiful, and I love the unique ideas you come up with, Anita. xo
Wow Anita, you sure do change things up nicely. Who would think to move the furniture all around like that? I like the lanterns and the bench's new covering. Now I'm really curious as to where your living room disappeared to. 🙂
Anita this space looks AMAZING!! Absolutely beautiful!
I'm loving the changes, Anita! Everything looks so pretty! Can't wait to see the rest!
So in love with this! Thanks for sharing! Found you via Savvy Southern Style! Glad I did! Best, Kennesha, Restoration House Interiors
That looks wonderful Anita. I love that you used those candleholders as a candle-lier….Very creative and beautiful!
Your room looks so lovely and I love how you make the simple things so beautiful. I also love that door you have against the wall.
Your "new" dining room is absolutely beautiful!! I love the way you always bring in nature to your arrangements. The propped door is the "icing on the cake" that adds so much charm and personal meaning!

It's all so beautiful. You've inspired me to cover my chairs. I'll link this to my post today. Thanks, Deb
Anita it's gorgeous, I love the way your room looks 😉
Smiles~

This room is filled with amazing details. You really went all out and it looks amazing. A few of my many favorites is the bench, the book leaves on the lampshades and the layered photo frames over the sideboard(genius by the way)
Everything looks absolutely autumnal and beautiful. Love the door and art. I have my great grandmother's dining room furniture and kept it's existing finish. I think all the chalk painted furniture is beautiful and have thought about doing this with ours…but I'm having a hard time changing what always has been. Only saying this to say it is comforting to see another dining room set in blogland like mine. Wonderful blog.
Oh Anita…everything looks absolutely beautiful! I love all of the naturalness you have used and those candle stands are perfect! I can't believe I just gave mine away!!!
The whole room looks great, Anita! I love the burlap covered bench and lampshade. Love the runner on the buffet, too.
Your changes are beautiful~love the neutral palette and all the textures~I am doing a neutral palette for Thanksgiving and you have given me lots of ideas here, thank you!

Thank you Yarlette! I have not seen the magazine yet:-)
It's absolutely beautiful! I am really impressed with your before and after! I love the paint job on those chandeliers, too!
Beautiful…love it all. The old lantern is great.
I truly love the look of this room! My favorite touches are the painting hanging on top of the framed music. I'll have to ponder upon your technique for that, because I think I may just have to try it! I also love the chestnut board on your table. You have a great knack for arranging and seeing beauty in the simple things in life.
Your new dining decor and arrangement has that warm feeling to it of a time long ago which adds a down-home appeal. Like the lamp on the table and very clever how you hung lighting. Have a peaceful week-end,
d
Great job!! Keep up the great work!
