One thing I do not regret is taking out a hanging cabinet in the kitchen when we made the wormy chestnut countertops.
This is a small house so I have really enjoyed a little extra space to decorate with different things. This summer, I wanted my pink Pyrex, 1956 pink Melmac cups, the Hazel Atlas “Pink Crinoline” dishes, and the Mirro-matic “I Love Lucy” coffee pot displayed.
For fall, I changed it all up and used vintage McCoy and Hull “Brown Drip” as well as vintage needlepoints and lunchroom sign from my parent’s elementary school.
Of course at Christmas, I got out the J & G Meakin “Romantic England,” the Johnson Brothers “Old Britain Castles” and some of my vintage silver.
Since Christmas, I wanted to try something different, yet again, and opted for vintage white McCoy pieces, Pfaltzgraf “Heritage,” a vintage Bavarian coffee pot and the Minton “Avignon” bone china from 1964. Even though everything here is at least 40 years old or older, I think the color combination has a modern look. The Louis Rowell original is from 1916, and the painted photo of my great grandmother, from 1921. The white pitcher was a $5 flea market find and was missing it’s bowl.
Since Anne Gridley and Gary Graves are coming Saturday to photograph our home, I have been in panic mode. We also have a major winter storm hitting the mountains today, so I’m hoping we keep power as my house currently looks like this:
Wouldn’t you be in a panic also?? I did finish painting all the baseboards grey as we could not get the wormy chestnut installed. Our miter saw is not big enough to cut boards that wide, so that project will have to wait. I still have to finish a section of chestnut countertop, really I’m not kidding, and make a bench cover for my piano bench. Oh…and I have to clean the house. Panic.
Outside looks like this from the “dusting” we got yesterday:
Everybody stay safe:-)
I’ll be joining:
I love your various displays you did on the shelves. I just learned about these photographers today from another blog. Do you know what magazine you will be featured in? Did you make the shelves that you are displaying on? Good luck on the shoot!
Hi Mary, thank you! Yes I did make them out of an old board I found here. Although, I might replace the boards with a more rustic and thicker board just to see how it looks.
How exciting for you to be in a photo shoot with your beautiful home! I love those shelves and the way you change them for the seasons. I kept thinking of where I could possibly copycat that in my own kitchen or house as I was scrolling through your pictures.
Every one of your seasonal displays on your kitchen shelves is stunning! So nice to have a great spot to display your various collections.
