I am quite sure y’all are tired of hearing about my antique door project. But this one is a little different, so I think you will be ok with my sharing it:-)
As you can see from this photo last fall when I switched the dining table to this spot, there was a regular leaded glass door here. It only goes to a side porch, and no one ever uses it to enter or exit the house, so I had wanted to switch it with an extra french door I had, but thought it might be too much work.
After restoring and hanging 12 antique interior doors last month, I knew I could handle this one, and oh what a change it made in this room!
It was not really a difficult process as both doors were the exact same size. All I had to do was reverse the door knob and deadbolt locks, then move the strike plates, which turned out to be the most tedious part, but not all that difficult.
I am in love with the change and only wish I had done it sooner. Since these windows overlook our creek and woods, it just brings more of the beautiful outdoors in.
I have also changed a few things around for summer and brought in some beautiful peonies and roses from my mother’s garden. Their scent is just heavenly.
I actually grew this one myself:-) I love how it coordinates with the color of the silk Chinese runner.
I am still loving my 1965 radio, and we actually have it on most of the day if we are here playing classical music from our local NPR station.
My dad recently found his old Ansco camera and knew I would love it.
I really do like how this space is taking on its own personality and evolving over time. The door change has made a big difference. Now if Luis would just let me knock out a wall and raise the ceiling:-)
Thanks for stopping by:-)
I’ll be joining:
Oh yeah! Love the antique door and painted gray at that! Love the room. The sweet vignette on the buffet is full of all kinds of goodies. I love old books, the old camera, the old radio. So darling.
Thank you! I really do love the gray so much too:-)
Letting light and the outdoors in is always am wonderful thing. Did I miss a colour change in the dining room? I am remembering a blue… luving the grey washed look though . Such pretty vignette with the old radio and camera.Sigh… feels like stepping back to a much more relaxed era…
Gee, I actually moved the piano into the dining area and moved the dining table here last fall. It works so much better this way. The "music room" is still blue like the kitchen:-) I was just telling my husband how much I would love to step back in time…
That door is perfect there! What a wonderful change.
Thanks Penny!
The door make the room and is so much more in keeping with your aesthetic. i'm not one for totally open floor plans, but go ahead and raise that ceiling! You will not regret it and I can only imagine how great exposed beams would look in your space. Plus, you get the added bonus of getting rid of the popcorn ceiling. It's only a mess for a short time. π
I know…there are times when I wish I had more separated spaces for sure:-) The ceiling is actually textured with a pattern and not popcorn, though, I would rather have real beadboard. But, and I'm sure that's not going to happen any time soon!!
The light the new door lets in everyday must be wonderful and make everything "showup" so much better. Great to "see" you friend!
Thanks for stopping by Janet!!
What great looking chairs and table! They look both stylish and comfortable, both of which are things that I guess most people are looking for in a chair purchase. The overall space looks really good, too!

I love, love the "new" look! As always, you did an amazing job of making an already beautiful space even more beautiful! π
Oh Krista, thank you:-)
The new/old door certainly made a huge difference. I have a few French doors too and just love them. Enjoy your weekend.

It looks beautiful! I love the history of all of your pieces.
Anita, I love this space – it looks great and is just so YOU.
What did you do with the door you changed? It's a great door, I hope you used it somewhere else?
Well done, great post and great job, ma'am.
Hi Anita, I love your dining room (actually love everything you share) but I find myself really loving your antler plaque. Oh, love the door too!

Your peonies are just so exquisite!….love seeing them in your magnificent vignettes…I just realized that your posts had dropped from my email….just re-subscribed…your dining room looks like it belongs on a magazine cover!!
I LOVE the new door! I wish I had a place to add a French Door to my little house – it makes such a difference. Everything is coming together and I always love to see the changes you make. You inspire me! I laughed about the idea of taking our walls and raising the ceiling. I've had a similar conversation with my hubby and he about fainted that I even had that idea! In an perfect world, it would happen! π
