I have worked on this hall bathroom forever it seems. It’s dark and small. Did I mention it’s dark?
First, I’ll show you some *before* photos. And I really mean before. This is a look I tried about four years ago. It didn’t last long either. Thank goodness.
White still embracing the warm, jewel tones about two years ago, I went this direction. I really did love this kind of English cottage look.
Then after I painted the cabinets last summer, I finally painted the walls a pale, peachy pink, “Sandy Rose Marble” by Colorplace at Walmart, which I loved then and still do.
I was all excited when I made the shower curtain similar to the other one, but it just didn’t grow on me.
So here it is now. My mom had given me some white poly-silk that I knew would be perfect for the shower curtain.
I added plain feed sack towels…
…some locally made, natural soap…
…and a vintage needlepoint from a family friend.
I also spray painted all the outlet covers with Rustoleum *Hammered* finish in silver.
I changed out all the cabinet door hardware to these glass ones last summer.
I also spent last summer searching the internet for coat and hat hooks and finally found these. I sure wish I could remember where I got them–but I can’t:-)
All I did was attach this old board to the door, then screw in the hooks. This door, by the way, is just an extra door for the laundry room that we do not use ever.
Nothing says “vintage” more than an old chenille rug. This one is a favorite of mine.
Of course, adding the antique door from the old house made all the difference in the world.
I love the simple, white shower curtain and the fabric has a really nice weight.
The window is from the old house as are the tongue and groove boards we put up two years ago.
I kept the towels I embellished last year with scraps from an old chenille bedspread.
We framed out the mirror with antique trim from the old house several years ago, and I still like having a big mirror even though everyone else is ripping them out. The only thing we really need to do in here is change the countertop. I traded the bathtub we took out of the other bathroom for beautiful, thick oak boards to make countertops for both bathrooms. We just have not gotten around to it. Go figure.
I do love this bathroom now. It really has a vintage feel like the old Victorian farmhouse originally here on the property that so many of the things we used came from, and that’s what I wanted:-)
I’ll be joining:
It looks beautiful. We have changed out several of the doors in our house with more to come! It is a fun little project that makes a huge difference.
Your bathroom looks fantastic, I love a good before and after!
Beautiful bathroom Anita. It reminds me of a B& B we stayed at a few years ago. Luv all the chenille you added.
It looks great!! That is the size of my main bath in my house!! I said it was small. Love all that you do!!
It looks beautiful Anita!!
Wow…that red color painted bathroom I liked the most. After reading your post, I am planning to paint my bathroom with this beautiful color. Amber…wonderful collections you have here on this post. Thanks for this brilliant write up.

Your bathroom looks lovely Anita. I like the changes and the lighter color. The needlepoint you have hanging over the flower arrangement looks very lovely together. I like a large mirror, especially in a small bathroom. I have one too and it makes the room look larger and throws more light around.

Your vintage bathroom is beautiful. I love the towels you trimmed out with the bed spread. Love all your touches.
Anita, the bathroom looks great! Your vintage touches are always spot on! The chenille rug and details on the towels are so pretty. You did a great job!
this new rendition, although the english cottage look (especially the shower curtain) was also charming.
Just beautiful Anita..love all of the cute vintage touches, especially those cute hand towels that are embellished with the chenille bedspread
All of the new touches do wonders for visually lightening up the small, dark space! Even the knobs play a big part in it from my perspective! Using the clear glass and the white ceramic really make a difference, too. The chenille really takes me back to a happier time. LOVE it!!! I am very interested in how you spray painted the outlet covers. That strikes a chord with me, and I'll keep it close as we start this kitchen paint job.
Everything looks so pretty and well coordinated, Anita! I'm sure you're going to love this look for a good long time!!!
