Fall and Family

I generally don’t share much about my family life, but in reality, it’s the most important aspect of my life, besides my faith. We had such a wonderful family weekend…very simple, but full of love, laughter and fun.

The weather cooled off drastically, and we woke up to very cool temps yesterday morning. We bundled into the car with coats and jackets and headed into town for the baby’s soccer match. I know he had to be freezing, but he didn’t let it slow him down and it was fun to see him in action.

On the way home, we spotted a car show at a local dealership, so we stopped by to see classic cars. Now, any of you who follow Far Above Rubies on facebook, know my fascination and love for anything vintage, but I have a serious affection for classic cars–especially any from the 1950s.

This one was my favorite shade of blue.

Of course I would love this 1953 Bentley…wouldn’t you?

And is there a car more classic than the Ford Thunderbird?

When we got home, we enjoyed the most beautiful afternoon.

After making the kids hot chocolate from scratch, I tried my hand at homemade pumpkin spice creamer, and it was amazing.

We topped off the night by watching both “Night at the Museum” movies, which has actually become our Thanksgiving night tradition, but the kids wanted to see them since “it felt like winter.”

This morning, we woke up to 28 degree temps and frost!

Of course, Sundays are all about worship for our family, so we bundled up again after Luis scraped ice off the car, and headed to town admiring the beauty of God’s handiwork on the way.

The leaves are really starting to turn, and while I anticipate the breathtaking color, I also know it won’t last long and I truly savor every moment of this season.

This afternoon, I had just settled in for my Sunday afternoon “Andy Griffith” DVD when our new neighbor came over bringing a chocolate cake, warm and fresh from the oven.

We enjoyed cake then watched the sunset from the porch with hot chocolate for the kids and pumpkin spice lattes for us. Of course afterwards they wanted to watch “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and we did.

There is something about fall that awakens my senses. The sky is bluer, the air clearer, and the colors more saturated. And I am thankful…

…for the little things that really are the big things:-)
