Have I mentioned how much I love pink?? I’ve been using it in all different shades for the past few years and could not be happier seeing it this season in my favorite magazine, Veranda, and from some of my favorite designers. It must be hot this spring — and I, for one, could not be happier about it.
After putting up the red and blue Turkish rugs for summer, I started with a blank canvas and slowly added the pink shades — starting with the pillows I made out of some antique Chinese silk I had, and a new retro/modern print I ordered from fabricguru.com. That really set the tone for the room, as the print also had a citrine shade, so when the “yellow bells” and my grandmother’s “weeping cherry” bloomed, I knew the flowering branches would be a beautiful spring touch.
I also exchanged the silver from winter for all the brass I could find and brought out my grandmother’s antique plate.
My dad gave me this brass box with a combination lock a few weeks ago, and neither of us knew what it was. After doing some research, I believe it to be a snuff box and probably very old — possibly from the early 1800s.
My pink overdyed rug arrived from overstock, and oh how I love it:-) Although the brand was different, it is the exact same rug I got from RUGSUSA, but in the larger size they did not have. I love the modern, fun feel it gives the room, and the splash of color it adds to the “couldn’t be more boring” jute rug. Although I couldn’t get a real overdyed Turkish rug, this is really a fun substitute and much less expensive.
It is wonderful for kids to roll around on also. You can see all about the rug-choosing dilema HERE.
I found some more inherited brass pieces at my mother’s and brought home this antique incense burner. How awesome is that? I have never seen one like this.
I smile every time I walk into this room. It just couldn’t be a happier place to be.
I love the hot pink and the most amazing thing is — so does my husband.
He definitely had some doubts about the rug, and that was even before he saw me start making hot pink pillows. Out of the blue he mentioned how much he liked the combination of colors…especially how it all worked with the citrine in the pillows and the yellow flowers. Say what? Well, he didn’t exactly say the word “citrine” but I knew what he meant! He is definitely a keeper:-)
I did try to keep the color to chair rail level or below so it’s not too overwhelming, and I think in combination with the gray walls and mostly white furniture, that’s what makes it all work.
Sometimes you just have to think outside the box and try something new — like citrine and hot pink:-)

Oh so pretty and I love the colors. The rug is beautiful and I love how you separated your rooms with curtains and the layout of your sofa.
