“Vintage” houseplants and a planter makeover

I love houseplants — real ones, and I have noticed that different varieties seem to go in and out of “style” over the years. I still love my ivy, from the Christopher Lowell Show 1990s, and have finally figured out how to keep it alive, but I wanted to add something a little more retro and found a larger leaf variety of Schefflera I wanted to try in the corner behind my couch.

Since I’m using so much brass this season, I wanted a planter that would continue that look, so I found this one outside and decided to give it a quick makeover. And by all means — please enjoy the pollen coating the glass table:-)

I sprayed it with Rustoleum “Hammered” in gold. It was what I had on hand and what I used on some of the antique door hardware last spring.

I love how it turned out. I didn’t do any distressing or sanding, but left it as it was.

It looks great and blends in well with the old books and vintage brass pieces.

Plus, the large plant, in conjunction with the overdyed rugs and hot pink Chinese silk, gives my room a little 1960s Bohemian chic flair, and I am loving that look this spring.

To go along with that look, I just bought some vintage Indian silk sarees to use and and am loving the rich colors mixed with the white upholstery and dark wood tones of the furniture.

There will be more of that to come, though:-)

In the meantime, don’t forget to enter my giveaway posted on top of the sidebar! You can win a FREE 10 x 8 canvas printed with your photo from CanvasChamp. What a great gift for Mother’s Day that could be! The deadline for entries is Saturday.

This is gorgeous, I love the way real plants just bring a freshness into the room. Now if only I could learn how to keep mine alive for more than a week or two!

I'm so in love with your pink accents! You have such a way with color, pattern, and texture. Just gorgeous! And what a smart way to bring more brass into your room. May your new houseplant grow healthy and strong. 🙂

That was such a good idea to paint that planter. It looks so dressy now! Love your bright pops of pink in your room.

It looks fabulous Anita! I need to makeover our urns. We have had them for 8 years now and they are just calling out to be freshened up.

These turned out so great! I’m curious about the planter makeover color choice. A few day's ago I had found some interesting plant idea in toolsidea.com. Thanks for makeover.
