Spring in the country

I have to admit there are many times in the spring I look around and see only the *huge* amount of work that has to be done to get the house and property back in shape here. Then I am reminded of how thankful I am to live in such a magical place, and that’s when I stop and take notice of all those beautiful things that are right under my nose:-)

Rhododendrons and azaleas are blooming in an array of pinks and purples.

The white azaleas are just coming out as the reds are fading. I will have light pink ones in about two weeks.

It always amazes me, after a winter of cold and below zero temps, that something so delicate and beautiful as these maidenhair ferns comes right back up as soon as the ground thaws and the sun warms the air.

I love these so much and have enjoyed them since we moved here.

My herb garden is coming back to life, and my chives are finally doing really well.

Jack-in-the-pulpits have popped up around the house and seem to be everywhere. This one came up in some ferns I transplanted from the woods.

My dad has plowed and harrowed my little garden, so it’s ready for lettuce, onions, zucchini, French green beans and a few other things.

Of course, my parents have already planted rows and rows of beans, corn, red and white potatoes, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, carrots, celery, lettuce, etc. I’m sure I’m forgetting something:-)

In the midst of all the beauty are pollen and dirt-covered porches and several weed-covered beds. Hopefully, we will be pressure washing the porches and getting them ready next week. You can see what they looked like last year in these posts:

.  There is so much to do, but there is so much to love and be thankful for as well as a great feeling of accomplishment when it’s all done:-)

Oh my gosh, HOW do you get such a pretty garden to grow? We only have 2 acres, and in the short time that we've lived here it's been nearly impossible having the pretty gardens we used to have. (And we were so excited about gardening here). Last year the grasshoppers – and heat – massacred everything, and this year it's the deer. (They're even eating plants that are supposed to be deer resistant). We planted two trees recently, and already the deer have reduced them to sticks poking out of the ground.

Your flowers are so beautiful. I miss having a pretty garden like that so much! I love your porches, too. We only have the one, but I'm never out there because of the traffic noise. (We're in the country, but there's a busy road just a few acres over. I prefer the quiet). You must love where you live!

The azaleas are magnificent…I love that you have so many different colors of them…it must be so wonderful to stroll through your property at this time of year….truly enchanting!
