Easy DIY 3-tier stand and vibrant fall color

Overnight it seemed like fall arrived here in the mountains with crisp, cool air and Carolina blue skies. I am enjoying it so much and am loving bringing the outside in.

I am sticking with my hot pinks and adding orange, green and yellow for this season.

I love to add fall accents around the house, and the kitchen is usually where I start. I like to leave out  seasonal fruit, etc., and normally use my plate rack, but have been looking for “parts” to make a 3-tiered stand for awhile. After searching everywhere online, I ended up using some things I already had with a couple of thrifted finds.

I started with one of the wood chargers I bought several years ago off ebay. I have not used them in a while, so I decided I wouldn’t miss one.

I glued a resin candlestick to the bottom with hot glue. Yes, plain old hot glue. (I will add that I have used it as a pedestal plate for a couple months and the hot glue has held up just fine.)

Since I wanted it to be gold, I spray painted it with Rustoleum Metallic Finish in gold.

It took a while for me to find something the right shape and size for the bottom, but I finally found this clear plastic platter at a local thrift store, which I spray painted on both sides.

I found the wood bowl last year and had already painted it gold. I did not glue the bowl onto the pedestal plate or the pedestal plate onto the platter thinking that I could still use them separately, and since the whole piece is on the island with another level behind, it’s certainly been sturdy enough for fruit.

I loaded it down with pears, oranges and local apples.

We love apples this time of year, and my parents buy them directly from a farmer they know at the WNC Farmer’s Market, so we get to enjoy them all winter long.

In addition to the gold stand, I have been adding to my brass collection and found this pitcher for .50 at a junk store.

I also found this tray for $1, which is perfect for salt and pepper, etc.

Since our leaves will not turn until October, I gathered zinnias and dahlias from my mother’s garden and added hydrangeas, basil and assorted weeds for a pretty and vibrant fall look. Honestly, for me, fall is all about bright, clear and overly saturated color, and I like reflecting that inside as well.

The brass pitcher and the colors of the flowers work nicely with the gold tones of the 3-tiered stand and the brass tray and also bring some fall warmth to my kitchen.

I love my little 3-tiered stand, and it’s a great spot to have fruit, etc., out to grab for a snack. It was SO easy to put together and probably cost about $5. You just can’t beat that.

Anita, this is just beautiful! It is so unique looking, so much better than anything you might have found. I bought some of that spray paint in copper this fall. So far, I've painted some gourds and a metal plant pot. I am so happy with the results. So glad autumn has found you! I am feeling it just a bit this morning.
