Azaleas and rhododendron

It’s *that* time of year when the azaleas start blooming. Although, I have several varieties and colors that bloom over the course of several weeks, sometimes everything aligns and most of the azaleas and rhododendron bloom at the same time.

I have exactly 49 azaleas around the house — some I transplanted from my mother’s property, and the rest I bought at Lowes about eight years ago for $1.98.

All the purple, fuchsia, and several of the red, came from my parents.

Most of the red, all the white and the light pink, which has not bloomed, came from Lowes as tiny plants.

I also love the pink rhododendrons, which came from Lowes. I have Mountain Laurel and native rhododendron, but they will bloom later.

It’s impossible to really capture how breathtaking all these blooms are when you are in the midst of them.

I love just standing on the porch, or sitting in the garden swing enjoying these blooms for the short time they will be here.

We always have *so* much work to do after winter here, and have just started getting mulch down. Because we are in the woods, we have to regularly pressure wash the house and porches. I’m not looking forward to that, but we have to wait until the pollen settles.

We also have to deal with the weeds in the gravel paths and put down more pea gravel, or chat as they call it at the quarry here.

In the meantime, I’m just soaking all this color up and enjoying it.

Because it will all be gone before you know it:-)

That's just beautiful. I almost want to add azaleas in the edge of the woods about my yard just looking at yours, lol.

Just stunning! The pictures look like oil paintings, very saturated colors.

Thanks Kathleen! In person, they are unbelievably saturated. I have to lower the exposure on the camera so they don't totally blow out the reds and pinks:-)

Anita, your gardens and setting remind me SOOO much of our old house. We had 60 some azaleas and 80 some rhodos. It was spectacular as is your GORGEOUS yard. I know what you mean about all the WORK in the Spring. It is SO much easier on us now, but NOT as pretty. Your setting is breathtaking. Thank you for sharing these pictures.

That is why we moved to a 55 plus community. They do mow, and shovel the snow and mulch WHAT THEY PUT IN! We went a little crazty and put in beds all around the house so we take care of all that now. It is not nearly as much work but as we get older I am betting we may have to hire it out. We both love gardening though so hoping we can continue for many years:)

Wow! Your surroundings are just gorgeous! And it reminds me a lot of where I live in West Virginia. Not particularly where my house is, but there are many locations that look very similar. You live in a beautiful place for sure!
