I was looking through photos on pinterest and was reminded how I used to set pretty tables at least once a week. Sigh. So I decided to get out the plates and flatware and set one.
Fall is such a great time to set a pretty table with all the wonderful things nature has to offer, so I went outside and cut some sourwood, dogwood, oak branches and some weeds, of course:-)
I think we sometimes keep ourselves from enjoying pretty things because of the extra effort involved, but goodness knows in this day and age, we need a little pretty.
I used some very basic things I had, and also some very affordable things.
I had the square rattan chargers and added a square porcelain Better Homes and Gardens dinner plate from Walmart. These plates are $3.98. I combined that with a restaurant salad plate I had and Mikasa Italian Countryside flatware. The glasses are basic Anchor Hocking from Walmart, and I bought them because they were simple, $4.98 for four, and were made in USA. I made the napkins years ago and was happy to get them out again.
I have had these napkin rings for probably 10 plus years and bought them at World Market, I think.
We are still loving the black modern chairs and find them to be really comfortable, especially after the Duncan Phyfe chairs, which were really uncomfortable to sit in.
I placed some branches from outside in an old vinegar jar my grandfather saved. These things come in super handy as he saved many of them, and I use them for greenery and flowers a lot.
I’m still loving my vintage brass and the warmth it adds this time of year.
I think it’s amazing what a little change can do not only for the look of our decor, but in the aesthetic and ambience. I’m loving this area, and it makes me smile when I walk by.
And all I did was take a walk in the woods:-)

Absolutely beautiful, Anita~ I love how you have pulled everything together with all the rich colors and textures. Just lovely! I had forgotten about all those old vinegar jugs. My mother had a lot of them in the old cellar and now I wish I had a couple of them.
Hope you have a great Tuesday- xo Diana

Oh that walk in the woods yielded a most gorgeous table….I love seeing you create such beautiful tablescapes and that lovely dining room…really love that dream catcher on the door…we all need to catch some wonderful dreams.
Your table looks so pretty and I like the hanging lamps you have above it.
What a warm and welcoming table! All the colors of autumn are so lovely and the branches and "weeds" are my favorite. I agree, we just need some pretty in our lives, thank you for sharing!
I am so inspired and have a new goal! To set the table at least once a week in a gorgeous fashion! Love the beautiful cuttings, the gingham napkins and the plaid throw on the bench! Your dining room is full of gorgeous treasures! It't just beautiful! ~ Kristin whitearrowshome.com
