Flowers at Balsam Mountain Preserve

I always enjoy the opportunity to create something for Balsam Mountain Preserve, and during the winter, trying to be creative keeps me on my toes.

After the holidays were over, I wanted something winter but something that did not scream Christmas, so I used my green Mason jars and added different varieties of pine along with faux red berries and pine cones. Since the greenery lasts forever but wanting a weekly change, I simply added red roses and yellow lilies to what I already had.

These really did well for a week, but the roses started to get brown on the edges.

We have a brand new Ingles here, and I’ve been loving perusing their flower section, so when I saw these begonias in different colors, I thought they would be really pretty on the tables.

I bought clay pots from the craft section at
Walmart, as they do not have holes in the bottom like regular clay pots, and spray painted them metallic gold.

I simply lifted the dirt and all out of the plastic pots and placed them in the clay pots.

They should certainly last longer than a week, and I think are a nice change from a traditional flower arrangement.

I thought about making a long wooden box and putting some together for the mantels if I can get more.

I think these are so pretty and really soften the appearance of all the wood and rock and will be a breath of fresh air here in the middle of winter.

My brain is always working overtime trying to think of creative things to do here that will last at least a week, be small enough to fit on the tables, and brighten things up.  I really love this, and I can use the gold pots again for something else.

The blooms are beautiful. I am so glad to have found your blog. It is so refreshing to see home decor that is not the farm house style. I miss color in decorating and the farm house tradition is just not for me.

Well thank you so much for that!!! I'm looking around at my plans for summer thinking *no one* is doing this much color, so good to know I'm not the only one who loves it:-)
