It seems like Fall is just around the corner, so I thought I better share our outdoor spaces before it’s too late.
We do enjoy sitting out here enjoying the sounds of the birds and creek, and we’ve had so much rain this year that we’ve felt like we really are in the temperate rainforest this is here.
I really only changed the fabrics around since I wanted to get away from the pinks, and added back in more reds.
I still love this black floral outdoor fabric I bought about 10 years ago and it really works with pretty much anything. I made new covers for the back pillows out of a vintage sari I bought from eBay. I treated them with outdoor fabric spray to help with fading and mold/mildew.
I made this pillow several years ago from fabric I bought at Spoonflower.
I also changed some of the chair seat cushions to black and found these on clearance at Walmart for $8.88. Don’t look for them now because they got rid of the summer stuff on July 4th, which is ridiculous in my opinion.
I moved the bistro table back to the old spot by the railing because it makes such a lovely place to sit and have coffee or a light meal. And, my husband and oldest daughter have enjoyed sitting at the table working on projects.
I also traded out the beige umbrella cover for this red one. I really like the red, but it creates a pink/red glow all around and everywhere it reflects, which is not great inside in the music room:-)
I bought buffalo check outdoor fabric to make a tablecloth, and this has held up really well and has not faded at all.
I’ve been enjoying this spot every day, regardless of weather, and although we’ve had a lot of rain, I’m not complaining as temps have been so wonderful here in the mountains that we are enjoying a gorgeous summer. Our kids start back to school in three weeks, and my oldest starts college.
Where does the time go?
Enjoy the moment:-)
I’ll be joining:
This is such a gorgeous and inviting space to enjoy. Love it all.
Thanks so much Marty!!
I tried to leave a comment.
hi
Love your colorful porch with all the comfy places to sit. I'm happy you been having a nice summer. Yes, life with children goes fast, enjoy your time with them:). Kathleen in Az
Thank you so much Kathleen!! I'm trying to savor every moment:-)
Beautiful porch. Great spot to just sit and unwind and collect your thoughts.
Beautiful porch. Great spot to unwind and collect your thoughts.
Thank you!
Love all your posts. You are very talented.
Thank you so much!!
It looks beautiful.
You are so fortunate to be able to use lovely fabrics and cushions outside, whenever I try it the raccoons and dust ruin anything within a very short time. It is so hot here that I think it adds to the inability to enjoy outdoor fabrics. I am a bit green with envy, your porch looks spectacular. Enjoy!
Thank you so much:-) We used to have to deal with my mother's dog, but he somehow decided the cushions were not so good to eat after all, lol!
Anita, it's beautiful back there! I love your mix of fabrics that seem to mix so perfectly with the natural green surrounding you.
Thanks Stacey! I played around with them a while before feeling like they all worked:-)
I always love seeing your back porch and what you come up with! Always so lovely!
Thanks so much Arell!!
I love your outdoor space, but I have a similar problem as another follower, in that both the community cats from my subdivision that yes, I feed, and the wild animals from the treeline at the end of my yard – raccoons, squirrels, birds and possums – seem to think that the chairs, ottomans and anything with a cushion, were put there for their benefit. I love all critters and don't have the heart to chase them away, so the birds and I use it during the day because by evening when it starts to get dark, I see little pairs of eyes coming out of the woods to claim their space. Oh well, there's room for us all …..
Wow! We live in the woods and even with lots of wildlife here, including the usual squirrels, rabbits, coyotes, bobcats, bears, etc., I've never had that problem! Even before my parents got their Norwegian Elkhound, who keeps everything at bay, we only had the occasional bear on the porch, but not any other animals.
I know it's the cat food that draws them, and I try to not have any out at night. No bears, coyotes or bobcats, thank goodness – small animals only. My city subdivision was built by tearing out natural habitat for these critters so they stay close to where they know and where at least a tiny portion of their habitat remains. I have a field behind me and a treeline separating me from the field. The cushions and rugs on the deck are nighttime heaven to these little beasts.
My mother's Norwegian used to take my outdoor cushions and rip them apart, so, I attached ties to all of them and tied them to the chairs. I guess he got tired of it because he doesn't bother them now, but we started calling him Chewy because of it. He keeps all other animals at bay here, so we are happy to have him here on the porch:-)
I believe I'm visiting via Dwena's blog and your porch is serene and cozy. It's so welcoming, makes me jealous . I'm still in process of moving in and taking time to visit around blogland.
God's blessings on you, yours and the work of your hands and heart.
I'm computer low tech and can't figure out how to add my name so…

I am loving your outdoor space! It's just beautiful. The black is classic and totally timeless too.
Great.
