We are fortunate to live in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina on land that has been in my family for five generations. It’s such a magical area, and we enjoy eating outside on the porch whenever the weather is nice.
I love alfresco tables, especially as it starts to cool down because it means those pesky bugs find somewhere else to go, and the cooler temps here in the mountains make everything outdoors so much more pleasant.
The inspiration for this table was my vintage McCoy Brown Drip dinnerware. There is something about the earthiness of this brown pottery that I love this time of year, and I have been adding to this collection for about 15 years. McCoy pottery was made in Ohio starting in the early 20th Century, and Brown Drip is one of the most popular patterns. It is easily available here at antique malls and generally not too pricey.
I chose a dark woven charger that I have had for years, napkins from Pier 1 Imports, and Mikasa Italian Countryside flatware.
The iridescent glassware also came from Pier 1 about 15 years ago.
I very rarely buy anything new, but I do buy cloth napkins because we use them exclusively, so when I saw these striped cotton napkins on clearance, I purchased them online and went to the store to pick them up. Then I saw the velvet/beaded runner, which was 70% off, so I knew it would be perfect paired with the brown dinnerware and striped napkins.
We usually grow a few pumpkins and varieties of squash, but this year my parents only had their smaller garden, so I picked up a basket at the WNC Farmers Market last Monday.
For the tablecloth, I used upholstery fabric I had on hand and added orange velvet pillows to the benches.
I found the iron candelabra at Balsam Antique Mall here a month or so ago when I went to look for antique cooking utensils and had to bring it home.
I love how colorful this table looks surrounded by all the green. Although there are few leaves changing here and there, the real color will peak here mid to late October.
In the meantime, we can enjoy the cooler days, clear skies and fresh air.

I hadn't thought about brown dripware in years and seeing your reminded me that my aunt had that pattern when I was a child. Every time I look at your blog, I know immediately whose blog is my very favorite! We love the same colors, styles, etc. Please, can you tell me where I could find the table runner.
