It finally feels like fall here in the North Carolina mountains, and I’m quite sure there is no one on the earth more excited about that than I am!!
I did gather a few things I already had to add some fall flavor to my porch steps.
I grew the orange pumpkins, except the tiny ones then added some I bought for my fall tour early last month. I took the hanging ferns down and put a couple of them here on the steps. Oh boy how nice it is to have the view again. Those ferns look great, but they really obstruct the views from the porch.
I cut some wildflowers as well as some zinnias and black-eyed-susans from my mother’s garden and simply arranged them loosely in some antique Mason jars I found in the cellar here.
I had no desire to spend money on mums, etc., and wanted to use what I have just as my grandmother might have done.
I grew all the Indian corn, and plan to grow more next year. It was so dry when I planted, I ended up replanting, and I’m surprised I had anything, but I got a bunch of pretty ears.
So it is entirely possible to make things pretty with what you have on hand. It just means being creative and thinking outside the box. This is just a simple, country porch, but it’s home, and we love it.
I’ll share the rest of the porch later, but first, I need to finish a door trim project😉

Yours is the perfect fall porch Anita! I love the ball jars full of wildflowers, Indian corn, bee on the flower and of course your precious pup! Absolutely beautiful!!!
Thank you so much Cindy!!
I absolutely love this Anita! And that wagon wheel, so gorgeous!
Thank you so much Christina!!
What a beautiful dog!! And yes, the porch looks wonderful. But what a beautiful dog!
Thanks so much Pat!! He is my mother's Norwegian Elkhound, but he is half ours, ha!
Love your porch! I would want to park myself there with a hot chocolate or coffee and a good magazine with vintage stories. Love the picture of your dog. He is gorgeous! That wagon wheel is such a nice touch, all goes together so nice for Autumn.
Thanks so much Betsy!! He is the sweetest baby! He actually belongs to my mother, but he hangs out here with us as well. Norwegian Elkhounds are very territorial and protective, and he takes care of us too:-)
Love all the fall colors! Beautiful front porch. Gorgeous dog; looks like a bear! What breed of dog do you have?
Thanks Gina!! He is a Norwegian Elkhound, and he actually belongs to my mom but he hangs out with us here as well!! He's a great protector, and really stout and strong:-)
Beautiful decorations are impressive
I love wildflowers the most! The black eyed susans and goldenrod are gorgeous here. Your porch is so inviting and the beautiful Elkhound at the steps to greet visitors! He is magnificent! I can see why you don't have problems with deer! We had a Norwegian Elkhound when I was a child in Arkansas and he was the sweetest companion.
Your fall porch is enchanting! I love how much love and energy you put into it. The Indian corn is amazing and the wildflowers add a beautiful pop of color. Of course, the whole scene wouldn't be so magical if there weren't for pumpkins that make your porch look like a scene from Cinderella fairy tale.
Beautiful, looks so cozy! Adore your style. Enjoy fall and can’t wait to see your style for the upcoming holidays!
