Cozy Winter Bedroom

Hello everyone! I’m so happy I got the bedrooms all ready for winter because we are experiencing temps in the teens and low 20s at night! That said, I’m sure we’re not the only ones trying to manage out of sight inflation, which certainly includes rising heating costs, and one of the things I try to do is keep the heat as low as we can stand it, so having warm and comfortable bedding is a must here!

Since we have hardwood floors, I always bring out the wool rugs. I bought this heirloom Turkish Yahyali at Yellow Star Carpets near Incirlik Air Base, Turkey in 1997, and it is a favorite that will be passed down to one of my children someday. It definitely makes a difference on the cold floors.

For the bedding, over my cotton sheet set I layered a lightweight down blanket, a chenille bedspread and topped that with a down duvet I’ve had for years. I can’t remember where I got it, or what brand it is but you could literally withstand 15º because it is so warm! Here is a similar one from amazon.

I am definitely a color kind of person, but I’ve always loved all white linens on a bed. I’ve added some color with these ticking stripe pillow cases I made several years ago.

I made the pillow from some remnant upholstery fabric I bought years ago.

Because great grandmother’s quilt is very delicate, I just use it draped across grandmother’s trunk, but I love how it ties all the colors in.

I kept the decor very simple in here for winter as well.

I love this little electric heater, and have had it for a few years. It’s great to add extra heat to a room, especially if you don’t have another heat source like a fireplace or woodstove.

I have certainly enjoyed the hydrangeas from my garden, and will more than likely leave these here through spring. I love the colors they add and how they tie in with great grandmother’s quilt, the carpet, and linens.

My maternal grandmother crocheted the beautiful runner, which adds some light and texture to the Victorian dresser.

I fell in love with the beautiful oil pastel one of my choir members created, and she gave it to me last year. You know how I love this snowy scene.

More hydrangeas grace this room in yet another vase I “borrowed” from mother☺️

I thought about adding some heavy chenille curtains I have, but I love seeing the beautiful trim from great grandfather’s house I installed last spring, so I left the lace sheers.

Thanks for stopping by friends! You can see that I kept things really simple, especially for me, and really just added comfy warm bedding, a rug, and some vases of hydrangeas☺️

I basically just want all my bedrooms to be warm and cozy so no one gets cold at night here. Something I am incredibly thankful for and do not take for granted is the ability and to lay my head down in a warm and comfortable bed at night. Trusting that we are all working in our own communities and through organizations to make sure everyone has that opportunity🙏🙏🙏

Here is the video on my channel, showing some of the behind the scenes as well as how to properly make a bed. Be sure to subscribe and “Like” so youtube shares with others who might like the type of content❤️

Hi Anita! I love the winter changes you’ve made to your bedroom! I also love a white or neutral bed! I definitely need to invest in a duvet. It gets very cold at the cabin. We heat with the fireplace as our primary source of heat and I cannot tolerate a hot bedroom, so I have plenty of covers. Oil lamps are a must in this home as well. I enjoyed your tour as I always do!

Thank you so much Carol☺️☺️ Yes, this one has been so nice, even when our power was off four days during an ice storm, it really was not bad to sleep with no heat, so I highly recommend them☺️☺️

Oh Anita, how warm and cozy! Love your lace curtains…I have them throughout my home. I remember lying in my grandma’s big brass bed under her “feather tick” as she called it watching the sun come through her lace curtains making lovely patterns on the pink rose wallpaper. Then it was fun for me when it was time to make up the bed for the day….I would help her fluff the feather tick and punch up the pillows til they looked like big white clouds. Oh my su h fond memories. How blessed we were to have grandmas! Yep I was a Marine Corp wife and still make those military corners on the beds. You are such a sweetheart to bring us the YouTube video and then to take the time to post your delightful blog in more detail. Thanks so much…I eagerly await every post. Blessings from me in Michigan. Brrr!

Love the colorful quilt and rug next to the all white bedding. MY mother always ironed our sheets and pillow cases. And she would crochet 3 inch edgings which were so cozy and special. Your room looks like that. Just where someone would want to lay their head down at night and feel safe and warm.

Gorgeous, Anita. I just love seeing antiques that haven’t been painted, all the reich wood tones telling a story of their long lives. Lovely!!!

Thank you so much Sandi for that – I try to respect the integrity of antiques and preserve them for the next generation☺️ My girls (20, 22) already have what they want picked out☺️

Your bedroom is so cozy and watching you make the bed was a work of art! I like when I can bounce a quarter on it! May I ask, where did you get the first quilt? Love that cream color! I have one like it in light green and I bought it at Walmart years ago but I can’t find it there any more. Always look forward to your posts!! Thanks for sharing! Have a great Thanksgiving!!

Thank you Linda☺️☺️ I wish I could remember where I got that blanket but it is at least 15 years old I guess🤔🤔 I used to look for that kind of thing at a TJMaxx, Marshall’s, etc., years ago but not sure I ever saw one at Walmart here☺️ Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!

Linda, the label on the blanket is Woolrich Home, so it might have come from Target, but it definitely would have been almost 10 years ago when I got it☺️☺️

Thank you Lucy☺️☺️ Yes it is, I rescued it from here on the property where it had been stored for who knows how many years and restored it☺️☺️ I’m sure it would have ended up in the trash had in it found it☺️

I have just recently found your blog and pictures of your exquisite home! Can you tell me the color of your siding and the bedroom, I think it is greenish color? My husband and I are getting ready to remodel our home and I love your colors! Thank you so much!

Are you asking about the outside siding? It’s actually a pretty boring “clay” color and I have dark green shutters☺️ The bedroom is currently “Geneva swan gray” an older Walmart Colorplace color mixed in Valspar Express Coat from Lowes. It’s a very light, warm gray though. I had a light olive color but it’s been a while. Are those the colors you’re asking about?
