Hello friends! Wow, did time get away from me over the summer! Somehow I was able to squeeze a few projects in between gardening and canning:-) I’m happy to be back, though and excited to be sharing some early fall decor in the living room. Marty at A Stroll Thru Life has been coordinating these tours for years, and I’m always pleased to participate with so many other fabulous bloggers. Welcome to everyone coming over from Christy’s amazing home at Our Southern Home!
Y’all know I love fall and look forward to it from the first day of spring. I was really excited this year to try something different with the “Coral Rose” walls in the living room, which I’m still loving so much. Of course there is plenty of pink in nature this time of year, and nature is always my first source for inspiration. I usually have some red oak branches to use, but there was not a single red leaf yet on even one of our trees here, so I used vanilla strawberry hydrangeas in the living room and a few dogwood and sourwood branches that had color.
For me, any season of decorating pretty much starts and ends with anything natural I can find in the woods, changing out pillow covers and throws, occasionally art, and using my go-to staples: books, candles and plants.
I tried so many options for pillows, blankets and throws on great grandmother’s chaise, but finally settled on a combo of orange, reds and a quilted pillow sham borrowed from mother. This is my favorite reading/napping spot so it had to be comfy as well.
I had antique paintings on this wall but decided to hang the hand-painted plates I bought in Bolivia. I love the earthy colors, and they’re just perfect for fall.
My floral “Gilmore Girls” lampshade ended up here on yet a different lamp, and placed on grandmother’s trunk I moved from the other corner to here. I am loving it here underneath the windows because it’s really a focal point now.
On the mantel, I used the dried hydrangeas and added old books, Navajo and Cherokee pottery, candles and deer antlers daddy mounted years ago.
I brought in a kilim pillow that seemed to really tie in the corals/reds/browns and a velvet blanket mother made years ago.
I turned the gold kilim pillows my daughter gave me to the back side because I really loved the mossy green velvet color for fall, then made some new pillow covers out of some extra brown floral I had.
The orange pillow is the only thing I bought, and I had been looking at these on amazon for a while, so I ended up getting this color, which I love. I like to mix up pillow shapes because I think it makes it more interesting.
I just feel like a dark and moody room is so cozy for the colder months, and I love how this all came together with the new paint color.
I clipped some autumn joy sedum from mother’s garden to use with the oak leaf hydrangeas, which turn the most amazing dark shade of pink/purple. I’ve used most of those blooms in the bedroom and kitchen, which I’ll be sharing in the next couple weeks. i also love how the iridescent depression glass ties together the oranges and pinks.
That is it for the fall living room. I’m so happy how this room came together, and am certainly enjoying the warm, cozy vibe it has for the colder seasons ahead.
Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope you’re inspired to skip the online and big box stores and use some things you have, can borrow from your mother or find outside in nature:-)

Absolutely stunning!! LOVE the reds, pinks and oranges and those hydrangeas!! How do you get the pink in them? Is that the type of hydrangea they are? I have many limelight hydrangeas we planted but no pink shades on them, more brown now. Still love them when they turn that sepia color. Would love to know how to get them pink if you know! Your trunk and chaise look so welcoming. The entire room is so cozy. Enjoy!! I love the Fall too! Best time of year!!

Hello Anita! Your home is so warm and lovely, far more comfortable than the “modern farmhouse” look. We live in a very very old farmhouse in Michigan and I try to keep it looking as authentic as possible, with my own whimsy here and there! I absolutely love your pillows but when I try to introduce them into our living room, they wind up on the floor! My husband just doesn’t get it! Take care, Penny

Ha ha, if we are using the sofa, we always pile them into whatever configuration we want for napping, watching TV, etc. I just like to have options:-)
You are truly an artist and your colors are breathtaking! Love everything about this tour!
