Hello everyone! I wanted to share a sweet baby shower I had so much fun creating for my oldest daughter recently:-)
You know how passionate I am about family and heritage, so I wanted to make everything from food to decor and flowers as meaningful as possible. My daughter and son-in-law picked two names that actually come from both families so I was excited to use that as inspiration.
I chose the Balsam Community Center to have the shower since my daddy attended school there when he was a little boy. His maternal grandfather James Porter is one of the Porters the baby is named for. Of course the vintage charm of this building also makes it a lovely place for an event. For photos, I used a screen door from granddaddy Porter’s house here, the Victorian that Daddy grew up in.
For decor, I didn’t go out to a big box store and buy anything, but used what I had including lace tablecloths with burlap runners and foraged flower arrangements in different color Mason jars. Of course, the flowers were from the property, and I specifically chose grandmother Isabelle’s pink “flowering almond’ as well as golden euonymus, mountain fire pieris and Phlox.
My aunt Melissa gave me 32 beautiful porcelain snack sets to use, and I loved the mix of patterns and colors.
Instead of tablecloths, I used pastel chenille bedspreads and a quilt.
Mother made her delicious chicken salad croissants and her cheeseball, and I made cucumber sandwiches, charcuterie boards as well as veggies and dip and date/coconut balls.
Our friend Faith made the amazing cupcakes, that were as delicious as they looked.
My youngest daughter made delicious ham sliders using my late Aunt Jody’s recipe. I know she would have loved to be here and celebrate this little one:-)
Evelyn, my youngest daughter, also made these peaches and cream cookies, which were also delicious.
I mixed a simple fruit punch in mother’s silver punch bowl and also served a selection of sparkling water.
It was such a lovely event, and my daughter really got to enjoy spending time with her lifelong friends, some she hadn’t seen in quite a while, as well as our family and friends here. This little boy is so loved by both sides of his family, and we can’t wait to meet him:-)
I hope you are inspired to think of different ways to decorate for an event like this, and as always, using things I already had or could borrow made it more personal, and I hope, more meaningful for my daughter and her friends:-)
Thanks for stopping by, and a big thanks to my talented husband for the beautiful photos!!

Hi, Anita!
First of all, Congratulations!!! How exciting! I’m still waiting for grandchildren. It always amazes me with a little imagination, creativity and ingenuity, what one can achieve. Everything turned out absolutely beautiful, sweet friend ! I also love to use things that I have on hand! Not that occasions, where money and time were spent, are not beautiful. I whole heartedly prefer a more simplistic approach. I remember one year for my daughter 16th birthday. I did that very thing her birthday fell mid week and we actually were planning a birthday get together on the weekend. However, for her special day I wanted to create something just for her, That she would always always remember! That morning I woke up while she was still sleeping and it just so happened that my yard was full of blooms, the blackberries were ripe on the vines, and I had several things to create a lovely brunch on hand! I wish I could post pictures so that you could see them. It turned out so cute and it made my daughter feel so special.😊
