Hi everyone! I freshened up our bedroom for spring just using things I had and cleaning all the nooks and crannies:-)
It was time to put away the down comforters and change out the heavy quilts, carpets and dark colors from winter.
I brought in some dogwood branches from the yard, and they have held up beautifully. Usually, branches might last a day or two, but these still look good after a week.
I decided to use mother’s blue chenille bedspread for a change and love how it looks along with the greens. I actually started out with the white one, but thought the blue was a nice change:-)
These are the green velvet pillow covers I had in the living room, and I made the blue ones years ago. The Harden settle was in great grandfather’s house here, and a sweet neighbor brought it back to me a few years back.
I brought this vintage print from the living room mantel and love how it brings more green to this room.
If you remember, this is the mantel I made from an old door about 10 years ago. It’s very hard to believe it’s been that long! Of course, y’all know I restored and hung all these doors saved from great grandfather’s house here as well as the trim I finished up a couple years ago.
I have not changed anything here – I still love granddaddy’s little gown hanging on the door, and his sister’s gown on the other.
I really didn’t do much but change out the bedding, wash all the lace curtains, quilts and sheets, and bring in some branches from outside. You really don’t need to buy trendy “Spring decor” to make your home feel fresh and ready for this season:-)
I have a new video on the channel showing some behind the scenes, so be sure to check that out!
Also, please let me know if you are subscribed and are receiving email notifications when I post. If you can let me know when you receive those emails, I’d appreciate that as well:-) It’s been a nightmare trying to get that set up again, so I hope it is working!!
So relaxing looking. Love your bedspread and quilt! the light blue with white, perfection! Happy Spring!
Yes Anita I am receiving the email notifications again. I never want to miss one of your posts. You are my Christian kindred spirit and I highly anticipate each of your posts! Love the blue chenille spread as it gives a soft glow of color and really makes that precious quilt pop!
As Phillippians 4:12 says you have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation. Our homes don’t need all the seasonal clutter from the box stores. Our inherited treasures and nature will provide all the decor we need. You are an inspiration for sure. Pray you and family are well. Love in Christ from Lin in Michigan

I’m loving this look. I always look forward to your posts as you have an authentic style in a world of copycats influenced by marketing trends!

Thank you! I’ve been posting, just not sending out emails due to an issue with my provider:-) There are lots of posts, if you click at the top on “Home.” 🙂
The email notification thrilled me and I wasn’t disappointed as I browsed through all of the beautiful photos. If your mom’s blue chenille bedspread ever comes up missing, I would have no idea where it might be.

Thank you Sara!! Funny enough, I have her pink, white and a yellow one also!!
Hi Anita, I did receive your email. Your blog is always an inspiration to use what we have on hand to decorate. Can you please tell us about the two quilts in the blog post? Are they family heirlooms? Did you make them? Did someone else in your family make those two quilts? They are so sweet.

The pineapple quilt is about 30 years old, and I do not remember where I bought it. My aunt has one, and mentioned she got hers from Spiegel. The basket pattern quilt is over 100 years old and made from flour sacks. It’s one of two I have passed down from a family friend:-)
I received your email also.
Bedroom looks absolutely wonderful so relaxing

Thank you so much!
Your bed frame is stunning! Can you tell me the artist’s name on the cottage print…so lovely!!
Author
Thank you so much! I found that here in pretty bad condition and restored it about 14 years or so ago:-) The print has initials R. Weber, but I have searched for it and cannot find anything. There is an Austrian artist, Rudolf Weber, but I did not find anything that would connect him to this particular print.
It has been a while since I received notificaton of a blog post…and I was thrilled to hear from you. I keep up with you on Instagram, but always loved your posts, your photography and your sweet spirit. So nice to see this post…I love how you use what you have and blessed with so many family treasures. I call it Sentimental Decor…Love it! Blessings to you and hope all is well, Alda

Thank you so much Alda:-)
Hello. I absolutely love the music. Watching your video makes me realize how satisfying it is to clean my home for the new season, instead of dreading it. Yes, it is time and labor intensive somewhat, but there is a real satisfaction in doing a job that makes our home lovely. Thank you.

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate that:-)
Exquisite Anita…
You take my breath away.
You say to use what you have but most of us do not have your resources. Your Grandmother had beautiful things. You are fortunate to have access to them. I enjoy your experiences of thrifting things and working them into your decor.
You are such an inspiration ❤️
Thanks for sharing your vision and talents with all of us.

Thank you Denise:-)
It’s funny you say that because from my perspective, most people are out buying new things online or Home Goods, and for me, most of what I have, I have found, painstakingly restored, built, saved from the trash, or sewed myself:-) I’m incredibly thankful for what I do have, and thankful that I can appreciate the things a lot of people would have donated or thrown away:-)
This is the first email I’ve gotten in a year. I thought you stopped blogging…

Anita, I love everything! You do such a good job, and I enjoy you so much. Thank
you for making my day
Everything looks lovely and refreshed for Spring! I love that you use vintage and sentimental items in decorating your home – I am all about this!!! That, in and of itself, is so refreshing. And, yes, I am getting the email notification of your new posts.
Hi Anita, your bedroom looks so fresh and inviting.
This is the first email I have gotten from you in quite a while
Author
Thank you Susan! When did you get the email? They should have gone out last week☺️
Hi. I have received your email again. Good to hear from you and see your beautiful home!
BTW, I think your quilt on top of the trunk is upside down because I believe the print is of baskets with handles.
Happy Spring from New Hampshire!
Author
Thank you! Yes I know the pattern of the quilt is a basket:-) I’m just not concerned with the direction it is folded and laying on the cedar chest:-)
