Hi everyone! It’s that time I look forward to every season when Marty at A Stroll Thru Life puts together these home decor tours! Y’all know I love to move things around seasonally, so this is the perfect opportunity to share that and link to these other ladies and their wonderful homes and a wide variety of decor ideas. I’m sharing my living room and kitchen decorated for summer. As usual, I rotated a few things around and changed out some pillow covers, throws, art, etc., for my summer look. There was one big change in the living room – I decided to paint over the pink walls with an old Colorplace color I’ve used a lot here over the last ten years, Grand Smoky Mountain. I love this medium, warm gray color and still have it on my cabinetry in the bathrooms. I just needed something neutral that also has some drama, and this is perfect. I had it mixed in Valspar Express Coat flat, which is a great can of paint – especially for $17:-) As much as I like to paint, that’s a very good thing.
I also decided to use some chenille curtains I bought at Target exactly 20 years ago. I just like the drama and color, and they worked so well with the new paint color.
I made the floral pillow covers out of the Kaufmann Queensland fabric I bought a few years back, and this is what I used to really tie everything together.
The red tole lamp was also a marketplace find back in the winter for $20. I love tole lamps, and the price was too good to pass up.
I love pinks and reds for summer, and they go so well with the paisley print on these antique chairs mother gave me.
Of course, plants are one of my favorite things to decorate with. I prefer to use useful things like plants, books, family photos and candles over “decor” items.
I found the little round pink pillow in my parents’ attic a while back and assume it belonged to my grandmother.
I painted grandmother’s trunk back in the winter as well with a sample container of Benjamin Moore “Vintage Vogue.” I love how it looks now.
If you’re new here, I made the mantel about six years ago from wood trim out of the old house here. The antique print was also in the old house.
I love how the 1930’s bridge lamp I found on marketplace and restored looks in the corner with great grandmother’s chaise, and you can see why I wanted that style lamp for this corner.
I’m really loving the color in here and am so happy I just went with my instinct and painted. I think it will work well with every season and also with any fabrics and the many different colors I use in here:-) It’s similar to the dark gray, Kilz “Dark Umber” I had a few years back, but lighter.
It’s hard to believe, but I didn’t change anything on my buffet! I love Mother’s vintage Hull Parchment and Pine candle holders and console planter and love the simpler look as well.
I sold the upholstered chairs I had and freshened up four ladder back chairs chairs my daughter gave me with a coat of paint. I found a match to another one I already had on Marketplace as well.
I am loving having the ladder back chairs back in the kitchen. I love that they take up much less visual space, and in a small space, that makes a big difference. I’ve used different cushions on them to keep things casual.
I bought the Waverly Cosima fabric last summer and made the sink skirt and curtains, but didn’t get to use them as fall came, and I used a different fabric. I love this floral, and that was the inspiration for the accessories I used as well.
I made all these kitchen towels, some from old feed sacks, and used a scrap of the Cosima fabric as well for one.
I really enjoy styling these open shelves each season, and for summer I used some antique art from a family friend then added some greens and blues along with the brown ware, Wedgewood cream ware and some vintage kitchen accessories from my parents’ house.
I made a few changes between photos, but that’s just something I cannot stop myself from doing:-)
I love that my 1968 calendar works for 2024, and this is the chair that everyone sits in here.
As usual, I moved a few things around and used what I had with the exception of the chairs my daughter gave me and the marketplace chair and lamp. I prefer a collected, worn, antique and comfortable kind of feel that has a uniqueness to me over a new, generic kind of big box decor store look with no personality. And color. I need color in my life:-)

As always, I spent ages looking at your photos. I love that there is something interesting everywhere you look. There are so many beautiful areas in your home, but my favorite is the corner with the little table and the vintage red lamp. Oh Anita! Your use of color just speaks to my heart….love love love the red! No one does color like YOU. I think using family heirlooms is just the best way of decor as well. I always notice the picture of the girl over your mantle and wondered if there was a story of that print…most unusual. LOVE all your decor and the sprit of love in your home speaks volumes. Thank you as always Alda for your encouraging and kind words:-) The print is “A Child from the Campagna” by Guido Bach (1828 – 1905) and was originally hanging in the upstairs hall of the old house, daddy said. I don’t know how it got there or who brought it here though. My grandmother hated it, so when they built the new house, she had it in the basement in her sewing room. When we moved here, I brought it over to our house because I absolutely love it:-)
Love the new lamp you restored and the new chairs also look great. Both rooms are always incredibly cozy but your kitchen, LOVE IT!! Enjoy your summer, Anita!
