I always enjoy the blank slate after Christmas, and never feel like the house is bare, but just clean and fresh. Dinnerware is a big thing seasonally for me, and whatever I use sets the tone for everything else. I generally bring out my Wedgewood Queens Plain/Shape creamware as it was the first pattern I chose in the early 1990s and is a classic from 1763.
Ever since I discovered the Blue Ridge Pottery Stanhome Ivy in my mother’s attic, I have paired it with the Wedgewood every winter. I was curious how it would look against the beadboard walls, and was pleasantly surprised that the look exceeded my expectations. I love the creamy white against the natural wood, and it’s a nice clean “palette” 😉 cleanser for winter.
I also added in some of the Mikasa Italian Countryside pieces I’ve had for years as well. It’s a great neutral pattern as well and one I use a lot.
Y’all know I’m not into white everywhere, and haven’t been since about 2014, but I thought I would just show what is possible with the addition of some drop cloth curtains, a muslin sink skirt and feedsack towels I made a while back. It’s a nice, bright look.
Of course, I kept some red as it really grounds the space for me, and the winter color palette is certainly resplendent with red, green, brown and the occasional snowy white shades. The Stanhome Ivy pattern also has the red berries, which again grounds the color palette for me.
On the table, a linen runner I made, is the base of the centerpiece featuring a silver tray with antique oil lamp, flanked by two clear vases of juniper branches — again keeping the red with plaid napkins and the silver echoing the frosty ice of winter.
I really love this look, and all it took was changing a few things around I already had on hand.
Of course, my bright, bold color will be back, but in the meantime, as much as I love this, it reminds me how much I love color😉😊😌

Totally charming! I haven't tweaked my kitchen yet, I need to clean everything first! normally I do blues this time of year, but with no snow–it is quite dreary outside, we will see if we get pounded in Chicagoland this weekend or not!

I love the white additions on the table, curtains, sink skirt and towels. It makes your other "treasures" so much more noticeable. I've told you before, the the removal of the island and the placement of the dining table in the kitchen was genius. Your home is the epitome of cozy, warm and family friendly.
All the warmth of natural wood keeps your winter white pallet from being anything but boring. I too find it cozy for a nice change, but how I love your use of color! I come back to your blog again and again for inspiration. Such talent! Marie
