One of my favorite things to do is use doors and windows from the “old” house in my decor.
This oak door replaced the white tongue and groove one I had here last fall and was a great place to hang stockings during Christmas since we don’t have a fireplace.
After I took the stockings down, I wanted something “light-ish” since it’s so dark, and decided to use this vintage cathedral print from my great grandmother.
I have been layering on top of old windows for several years, and have not gotten tired of it yet. It’s a great way to make something small look larger.
I propped up some old family photos on this one, which is lined with sheet music behind the glass.
I have changed the art out several times on this door and usually have this painting by a relative hanging. I have always loved the colors, and they work so well with the blue walls.
Then I decided to try this larger one, painted by my late uncle, Rex Thrower, whose paintings have been in the Custer Battlefield museum. I like both so I’m not sure which one will stay. It’s easy to change them, though.
I had a needlepoint there for a while last summer.
Since I have so many of these old doors, I put one on my back porch last summer with old tags on a plate rack.
I have found doors and windows to be a wonderful way to add interest and extra layers, and it really gives me more options — especially with smaller artwork which would be too small used alone.
And I have used them everywhere…literally.
And just in case you are wondering where the white door went that started out here by the buffet last winter…
It’s now here in the master bathroom water closet:-)
Like I said, I have these old doors and windows everywhere:-)

I totally agree! Doors and windows add so much character. I was trying to pick my favorite picture, but I just can't! They are all styled so nicely!
Have a great weekend!

They add character to these newer homes. Luv what you have done with them Anita.
Excellent use of vintage doors and windows through-out. You have done such a fantastic job with the changes to your home this past year. I especially love the vintage sofa, and since I have seen yours I seriously consider getting one myself, I think I have always loved that style! Happy new year my friend. Diane
Great job. Keep it up.Windows and doors plays an important role in every home. These old doors are looking awesome.

Love old doors! If they could just talk and tell us who has passed through them.
Great ideal using sheet music as a backdrop in the old window.

Love using old doors…. I scored big time this past summer at our community Thrift Store ( all proceeds go to a non profit Teen Center) Believe it or not….. I happened to drive up right after a gentleman left 6 white paneled doors with the "Glass" door knobs still intact !!! He was tearing down a house and dropped the doors off at the Thrift Store…. NEEDLESS TO SAY… those 6 doors went home with me to my garage to be used in the "Near Future" …. for a total of $30.00!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yep… I was so excited!!!!!! Can't wait to put them in place now that the holidays are over!!!! 🙂 your house was the one that inspired me to look for old doors… THANKS!!!!!!
Oh I love all of these ideas. So pretty and you always create such intersting vignettes. Love all the doors and frames. Thanks tons for linking to Inspire Me. Hugs, Marty
