I am so beyond blessed to live and raise my children on the property my great grandfather bought, where my grandparents lived and my dad was born. I am blessed to be just across the creek from my parents. I would like to share with you the 100-year-old root cellar…
On top is the smokehouse, but honestly I don’t think any meat has been cured in there since the last bear got in.
My parents use it to store apples and potatoes for the winter… for all of us. They’re just that way. My brother and I are blessed.
My mom bought these apples, and *lots* more, at the farmer’s market yesterday. This feedsack is one my granddaddy stored upstairs in the smokehouse.
I love this old building but I love even more that five generations of my family have come and gone through this door…
…in all kinds of weather.

Great photos Anita. Love the apples in the basket, the grain sack and the old chair. I always love the red chippy paint door too. Your porch is looking good. The ferns are an unexpected by nice combination with the ferns.
That is very special how you can enjoy and love your families things. My favorite treasures are things that were passed down to me. Love the feed sack and all your fall decorations!

What awesome history you have. My family roots are so scattered.. my fafhter's famiy from Punjab India, my mother's from the UK and France. So no roots here at all but the fact that we , the kids of that far flung legacy live here , married here, and are now raising 1st generation All American children.

I love the old ideas, root cellars, pantry's,glass cupboards in the kitchen, built in corner hutches. My great aunt, uncle, had a large one in their historic home. Your decor is breathtaking, the apples, pumpkins, all so natural and their home. thank you for sharing so much, blogging I know is time consuming, I am grateful to still be a follower, because you never stopped, even though your life, like us all, is so hectic and responsibilities abound. I was so excited to see your root cellar on Facebook and showed my husband. You see, we have a root cellar built into the side of a hill and half of it collapsed last year. All of that lovely yellow limestone rock tumbled down. Maybe after seeing your root cellar he'll tackle rebuilding it! We also have a smokehouse but I'm afraid it's built of concrete block, not nearly as charming as yours. I love your porch dressed for fall. Who would have thought of using an old bed frame or springs, whatever it is, and hanging old skillets from it? Very nice. Are apple pies baking yet?

Anita , I never, ever visit here without leaving completely delighted. I regularly think about how blessed you are to be living in that wonderful home that isn't just full of family treasure, it actually IS one itself. I love everything about it, but that root cellar might possibly be my favorite enchantment so far.
