Rustic Country Christmas

Hello friends! I’m excited to be sharing my living room all decorated and ready for Christmas! Also it seems really strange to not be linking up to my friend Marty’s Christmas home tours this year, for the first time in nine years! She has decided to spend more time with family, which is so well deserved, but I know we all miss her and the tours where 30 or so of us got together to share!

I went a different direction this year mostly because of the new sofa I partnered with Valencia Theater Seating for last fall. The “Parma” Leather Chesterfield is such a classic design, and the brown leather just made me feel like I needed to add more rustic elements. I had in mind a cabin/mountain/rustic kind of vibe.

I brought out a lot of things I’ve not used in a while, including a rug I bought in Turkey years ago, as well as some Native art, including a collection of Cherokee baskets.

For the tree, after I put on the lights and great grandmother’s antique beads, I added all the vintage ornaments my mother bought several years ago on eBay. She had made some in the 1970s, which I had, then she found an entire set, which I absolutely treasure. I’m happy to be the caretaker of something someone put a lot of time, love and energy into making and hope my girls will treasure them someday.

I added some ribbons I used last year, and felt like the tree was complete. I just love it so much. I usually load the tree down with everything I can put on, but this seemed just perfect🙂

For the mantel, I added wet floral foam to some containers and clipped hemlock, white pine, cedar and magnolia branches then added nandina berries and pinecones. I love this lush organic look, and it goes so perfectly with the antique painting by a late relative.

I brought out pillows I had including some green and red velvet, a kilim, and a plaid one I made. Again, I really wanted to get the feel of a mountain cabin at Christmas.

An antique Cherokee river cane egg basket holds clippings from the yard.

The red candle holders are actually from Burlington Coat Factory in the 1990s.

Some pottery and granddaddy’s old books, keep things interesting and authentically vintage.

I arranged more cedar and euonymus branches over the windows from the old house.

The vintage style C7 lights are the ones I bought last year from Trutone Bulbs, and they are sooooo amazing! They are LED, but they have the same look and glow of the old Christmas lights, and no other Christmas lights are like this. Color lights give off a blue glow, and the clear give a chartreuse glow. These don’t have any of those issues.

I’m loving how this looks and am so glad I changed a few things up by using what I already had. Also, leaving some of it in the boxes was a good idea too😂 It’s hard to not use all the Christmas decor, but it’s nice to rotate things in and out as well for a fresh look every season without buying anything new.

Thanks for stopping by friends! There’s a video on the channel, so be sure to “Like” and “Subscribe” so you don’t miss anything🙂

Gorgeous and all those natural red berries. I wonder if you grow those in your neck of the woods. Everything is luscious, rich and charming, Gorgeous Rustic maybe, Grins, Sandi

Thank you Sandi! Yes, those are nandina berries straight from my yard:-) I never even planted them, but used mother’s for some arrangements, the berries fell off to the ground, then I had several come up. They grow like wildfire here.

I look forward to each of your posts. this rustic cabin christmas is so appropriate for this year. We mourn the loss of more of the mountains heritage spots and this pays tribute to mountain beauty.

I appreciate that so very much🙂 It is a horrifying thing to see the damage and destruction knowing things will never get back to “normal” ever again🙂

Everything looks beautiful. I too left lots in boxes this year. It’s hard not to put everything up but it gets to be too much sometimes. I think you did a great job. Really enjoyed this post.
