Winter Farmhouse Kitchen

Hello friends! I’m excited to share some winter decor in the kitchen! I really like to simplify things after Christmas, so there’s less color, simple geometric patterns and more earthy and organic tones. I really had in mind a cabin-kind of feel, which the rich wormy chestnut in this room really exudes.

I found this fabric after Christmas and while I had planned to make a pillow cover out of it, I thought it would make a cute sink skirt. I love how it works in the winter kitchen.

I used my usual Brown Drip and added some pewter as well as the Royal China Currier and Ives dinnerware I really love. It’s so wonderful for winter, and I have a pretty large set someone had given my mother years ago.

I took a pot of ivy I had and repotted it to make a topiary out of this form I’ve had for years. Some of you might remember when I hosted my first Mikasa China giveaway in 2010 and used two of these with the Brava Rooster dinnerware🙂 (That link is a real step back in time!!)

I like to have a comfy chair here, and this one I got on Marketplace last year just ended up here in the shuffle.

You know I love these old calendars, and this is definitely one of my favorite prints. he calendar years repeat, so I have several of these I rotate.

I like to hang something from the oven door and added a kitchen towel and these towels I made from my grandfather’s feed sacks years ago.

I also decided to hang some of my iron skillets above the stove. Mother found the cast iron trivet at their house and gave it to me.

The marble came from my granddaddy’s store, and I found it in the old garage here and cleaned it up to use years ago.  We made the wormy chestnut countertops about 12 years ago, so I like to protect them from any cutting, etc.

On the table I used some fabric I had for a runner and added a Brown Drip bowl filled with apples and acorn squash ready to cook. I make a stuffed acorn squash with apples and sausage, so maybe I’ll share that. It’s a wonderful, hearty winter meal.

I decided to add the skirts I made a few years ago to the ladder back chairs, but I’m not sure I’ll leave them on🧐 What do you think? Be sure to let me know in the comments!

Thanks for stopping by my winter kitchen, and be sure to head over to my channel and watch the video.  Are you subscribed to my channel?? It’s a format where I really enjoy exploring my creativity, so be sure to check it out, and I’d love if you subscribe🙂

Love your warm and cozy decorating. It looks like a lovely place for family, as it should. My grandmothers both died when I was young but, I learned a lot from my parents. Learned about sewing for myself and gardening. I even learned a little bit of woodwork from my father. Of course a lot has been passed down to my sons.

Oh I love that Marlene! I’ve also learned some woodworking from my daddy, and some electrical too:-)

Beautiful, cozy home. I think if you want to keep the chair skirts you might want to think about tea staining. They are very white. But your kitchen is delightful.💙💙💙

Thank you so much Christine!! You know I never thought about that🧐 I made them years ago out of drop cloth fabric, but I definitely think a darker, warm color would be better🙂

Always a treat to visit any of your lovely rooms or posts. Simplifying is the way to go, hopefully Spring won’t be too far away…we are blessed with some 40’s this week in Chicagoland, it’s been an awful February here. All your treasures make me smile, Thanks for sharing, Sandi

Hi, Anita! I love the cast-iron hanging above the stove! Definitely gives it that cabin feel. I also hang my cast iron. My husband put some of the old Barnwood lumber on the side of my pantry cabinet. I must say it definitely freed up storage in my tiny cabin and makes it so it’s not so heavy trying to pull out of a cabinet or the oven. I absolutely love your kitchen!

So pretty and warm for winter. I like the white chair skirts since they tie in with the cabinets, but not sure if I’d change the color. Maybe add a burlap color or subtle earthy pattern “ribbon style bow” over the white ties? Just a thought. You may want to use all white some other time.
